Blurb

This blog follows my journey from NYC to Seattle through the woods and over the mountains to the west coast I go!

Forecasting Madness

Weather in the Pacific Northwest is notoriously difficult. So I can't get too upset when the forecasts are totally off. But I still do. Let's just say I'm not crazy about dressing in layers...

Today there is a high temp of 66 forecast but right now it's 74 degrees :/

It's Not My Imagination

Leave it to me, huge weather nerd, to move to the place with the least amount of severe weather in the continental US!

This is why I'm so fixated on earthquakes. Because what else is there? Thunder? Nope. Snow? Nope. Hurricanes? Nope. Tornados? Nope. Waterspouts? Nope. Even the rain is usually just a mist or drizzle (which is a good thing!).

I miss thunderstorms.

80 and Sunny

A third day of 80+ degree temperatures in Seattle! I definitely brought the Texas weather back with me (minus the storms).

But... Signs are pointing to a formidable La NiƱa coming around August or so, which would mean lots of cool temps and rain in the Pac NW. The east coast would get lots of snow and an active hurricane season. Lucky them. We shall see what transpires!

Days Getting Longer

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in Seattle who is bummed about the more daylight thing...

Goals

One of my long-term goals is to one day have my very own weather station :) #natdar

Thunderstorm

Finally! A thunderstorm! This morning around 6am the boom of thunder woke me up (and I'm a heavy sleeper!). There was great lightning, too. It had been months and months since I had last seen a thunderstorm out here. Too bad I was so tired I fell back asleep until 7 :|

Freezing Fog

I encountered a weather phenomenon called freezing fog while driving to and from Portland this weekend. It was like a big cloud that turned everything white.

Rich Tropical Moisture

I can turn my humidity machine off!! Loving this gray, wet weather. Seattle seems to have collectively breathed a deep sigh of relief :)

Crazy Windstorm Debris

On the roof outside of my window is a wooden thing that says "Professional Aerospace Union" on it. Wonder where it came from!

Hazards

Much to his dismay, Rocco sometimes can't go out for a walk because it is too windy. Today the winds are gusting to 45 MPH. He would just get blown up into a tree! I've already picked up a planter that fell down from someone's balcony up the street. I also found a random Frisbee and a hat. People should really check the weather more often.

Light

Interesting...

In NYC sunrise is 5:57am and sunset is 7:49pm.

In Seattle sunrise is 5:55am and sunset is 8:17pm.

Those extra 30 minutes of light are very noticeable. And it is making my bedtime difficult to uphold!

Plague!

The worms are everywhere this morning! It is like a damn plague out there. With the heavy rain, worms are getting washed onto the sidewalk. Walking to work is like navigating an obstacle course. Since it's dark outside, I can only actually see the worms that are illuminated by a street light.

Summer Day with Juice

It's actually not as gross as it looks.

Kale, carrot, apple, ginger.

Just felt like I needed something nutritious to go with the vitamin D!

Disappearing Act

Space needle is disappearing!

I think I'm walking in a ground-level cloud.
