This blog follows my journey from NYC to Seattle through the woods and over the mountains to the west coast I go!

Red Cars
I really don't like them. Why? Perhaps because they never match their outdoorsy environment? Red is not neutral. It is a strong color that screams "look at me!" Maybe I've just been reading too much Alain de Botton lately...

Mail Bush
I finally feel the willpower to deal with my mail bush, but it is nearly 10pm on a weeknight.... Arghhh.

Pretzel tasting with all sorts of condiments at Bravehorse Tavern. Lots of beer, too, including a custom raddler 😎 🍻

The Bite
It has been two weeks and I still have a bruise/mark from that spider bite!
This morning I released the captured spider outside. That hardy thing lived in a jar for two days next to my computer. (I had a student drill a hole in the lid for air.)
Sun!
Seattle has 50 more minutes of daylight than NYC! The sun sets here at 9pm today. It is driving me crazy. Clearly.

Arachnid News
Today I captured (or, more accurately, had someone else actually capture while I screamed) a spider in my classroom. I don't know of this was the one who is responsible for my bite, but chances are good.

Nocturnal Problems
As a "night person" I am having a difficult time being productive with my painting. I like to paint at night when it is dark out, but lately it has been sunny all day up through dusk, which is around 9:30pm. Because of my weekday work schedule, I find myself feeling tired and ready for bed around 10pm. So tonight I will challenge myself to stay up super late.
Hopefully the dirty Dalmation will help.

Spider
Hi Friends. It has been a while!
Have a new Pacific Northwest experience to report on...
I was bitten by a hobo spider on my arm. The hobo spider is like the PNW equivalent of a brown recluse, except it is less deadly. I'm not positive it was a hobo, but it looked similar to photos I found.
After 8 days I still have a large welt and a scab. It is definitely less red and raised than when I received the bite last Thursday. It's pink and rough now. I guess maybe I'm one of the lucky duckies that didn't get a venomous one?
For those of you who don't know, I have an intense fear of spiders. So this was especially traumatic.
